The banned United Liberation Front of Assam (Independent) announced a one-way ceasefire for three months given the prevailing situation of Covid-19 in Assam. ULFA (I) commander-in-chief Paresh Barua said in an e-mailed statement to the media that the ceasefire would be effective immediately and the organization would refrain from any operations during these three months.

Paresh Baruah said in his statement, "We have decided to postpone all operations for the next three months as people are facing a lot of hardship due to the epidemic." Assam has so reported with 3.15 lakh Covid-19 cases in the second wave of the epidemic, while 1984 has lost their lives in the state so far.

Baruah has denied the organization`s role in the grenade blast in Tingrai on Friday. One person was killed and two others were injured in the blast.

Barua alleged, "It is unfortunate that when the people of Assam are facing difficult times, a section of the security forces is trying to tarnish the image of the organization". Chief Minister, Hemant Biswa Sharma appealed to ULFA(I) chief Paresh Barua to come forward for peace talks after he took oath as the new CM of Assam.
