Defence minister Rajnath Singh reached Assam today for his two-day visit to the state.

As per the Ministry of Defense, he inaugurated twelve roads constructed by the Border Roads Organization (BRO) near the border.

During the inauguration, Rajnath said that today I am very happy to dedicate 12 road projects constructed by BRO to the nation simultaneously. He said that the North-East did not see any development for a long time under the UPA but under the leadership of PM Modi the development has increased by many folds.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh further said that the area has strategic importance. This area shares borders with many countries. Along with development, it is also important from the security point of view. The people living in these areas will be greatly benefited by these roads. This is part of the larger goal of our government under the `Act East Policy`, under which the government is laying great emphasis on the holistic development of the border areas.

Rajnath further said that during the last seven years, the budget of BRO to develop road projects and other infrastructure has been increased by three to four times. There has been an unprecedented improvement in the security situation here in the last seven years. Incidents related to the insurgency have decreased by 85%, and the casualty of civilians and security forces has decreased significantly.
