Earlier on Saturday, as part of the Assam government`s campaign against drugs and to make the state drug-free, seized drugs worth Rs 170 crore were burnt in public functions in four districts of the state. The Chief Minister said that the State Government has adopted a policy of zero-tolerance against drug menace and illegal drug trade.

Talking to the media, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the state government has adopted a policy of zero-tolerance against drug menace and illegal drug trade. Sarma also holds the Home portfolio. He said that in the last two months, Assam Police seized 19 kg heroin, 14 kg opium, 1920 kg morphine, 33014 poppy straw, 8276 kg ganja, 67650 bottles of cough syrup, Rs 1 crore cash, foreign currency equivalent to Rs 13630, 6.80 lakh Fake Indian currency of Rs and destroyed the cannabis plantation in 31 bighas of land.

The Chief Minister said that Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the Chief Ministers of Manipur and Nagaland have been supporting the Assam government in its fight against narcotics.
