Assam announces fresh Covid curfew guidelines from July 20, gatherings on Eid-Ul-Azha prohibited

The Assam government on Monday announced that in view of the COVID-19 pandemic, gatherings in groups on the occasion of Eid would not be allowed in the state.

The Assam government on Tuesday announced a complete lockdown with effect from tomorrow July 20 in five districts of the state to control the spread of the Covid-19 virus.

According to the new order, this lockdown will be implemented from July 20 in Golaghat, Jorhat, Lakhimpur, Sonitpur and Biswanath. During this, restaurants and shops will remain closed round the clock. Along with this, the movement of public-private vehicles will also be banned.

According to the new order, curfew in the districts of Morigaon and Goalpara has been relaxed till 1 pm. All other districts with declining Covid cases will also be under a curfew from 5 pm to 5 am.

During the curfew movement from one district to another will also be banned. The Assam government on Monday announced that in view of the COVID-19 pandemic, gatherings in groups on the occasion of Eid would not be allowed in the state.

State Health Minister Keshab Mahanta appealed to the people to celebrate the festival in their homes. He said that a maximum of five people would be allowed to offer prayers in mosques. The festival of Eid-ul-Azha will be celebrated in the state on Wednesday.

The government also fixed a cap of maximum 10 people in funeral and marriage ceremonies.
