Assam CM announces `Population Army` to help in containing birth rate in Muslim dominated areas

From 2001 to 2011, the population growth of Hindus in Assam was 10 per cent while that of Muslims was 29 per cent.
Assam government will soon form a population army that will be sent to control the population in Muslim dominated areas in Assam. This army will work to increase awareness about population control along with distributing contraceptives among Muslim women.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswasarma has given a big statement on Monday (July 19). In fact, he has cited population explosion as the root cause of economic inequality and poverty among minority Muslims in Assam. He said that youth would be sent to the lower parts of the state to create awareness about population control measures.
Sarma said in the assembly, “The population is increasing in the western and northern parts of the state. Around 1000 youth will be involved in spreading awareness about population control measures and distributing contraceptives. We are preparing to create a separate force of ASHA workers who will be tasked with birth control and contraceptive delivery".
He further said, `From 2001 to 2011, the population growth of Hindus in Assam was 10 per cent while that of Muslims was 29 per cent. Large houses, vehicles due to less population have improved the lifestyle of Hindus in Assam. Children are becoming doctors and engineers. However, it is not yet known on what basis the Chief Minister gave this data.
