In a first, Assam doctor tests positive for both Delta, Alpha variants of Covid-19 despite 2 vaccine doses

The doctor was found infected with both alpha and delta variants of the virus despite taking both doses of the Covid-19 vaccine a month ago.

A woman doctor from Assam has been found infected with two different variants of the coronavirus at the same time, which could be the first such case in the country. Dr B Borkakoti, Senior Scientist, Regional Medical Research Center (RMRC) of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) gave this information.

The doctor was found infected with both alpha and delta variants of the virus despite taking both doses of the Covid-19 vaccine a month ago.

About a month after taking both doses of the vaccine, the woman and her husband were found to be infected with the alpha variant of the coronavirus. The couple is posted at a Covid Care Center. The senior scientist said, `We again collected the samples of the couple and in the second phase of the test, the double infection was re-confirmed in the female doctor.` He told that the lady doctor had mild symptoms of sore throat, body ache and sleeplessness and she did not need to be admitted to the hospital.

Dr Borkakoti said that some cases of double infection were reported in Britain, Brazil and Portugal, but such a case has not been reported in India before.
