An Assam policeman, who was seriously injured in the firing between the police forces of both the states on the disputed border of Assam and Mizoram, succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday, taking the death toll to seven.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted and said, Shyamprasad Dusat of 6th Assam Police Battalion died at Silchar Medical College Hospital. He was shot in the stomach. He tweeted that he could not be operated on nor could he be taken to Guwahati due to the deteriorating condition.

The situation is tense after 5 soldiers were killed in a clash along the Assam-Mizoram border. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has decided to increase the security of the border areas. For this, commando battalions will be deployed in three districts. Himanta Biswa Sharma said that the Assam government will raise 3 commando battalions in Karimganj, Cachar and Hailakandi for which 3,000 soldiers will be recruited.
Even after the intervention of the Union Home Ministry, the ongoing dispute between the Chief Ministers of Assam and Mizoram has not stopped. Both the chief ministers are blaming each other. Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the Assam government will provide financial assistance of Rs 50 lakh each to the kin of the policemen killed in the border clash with Mizoram on Monday (July 26). One lakh rupees will be given to the injured.
