Five CPI-Maoists surrender before the Assam Police

According to security sources, the Maoists are also trying to establish bases in Meghalaya with the help of Garo militant groups. GUWAHATI: On the eve of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the state, five CPI-Maoists surrendered before the Assam Police on Thursday.Assam Police additional director general (special branch) Pallab Bhattacharya told TOI that the five extremists, including a woman, led by a wanted Maoist, Moina Dohotiya have come to the police "announcing their decision to join the mainstream with a desire to lead a normal life. ""A few more Maoists are still left and we are trying to bring them to the mainstream," Bhattacharya said.The left wing extremists are known to use the state as a 'Red Corridor' to set up bases in Arunachal Pradesh and connect to the People's Liberation Army of Manipur, a Left aligned militant group of the state, and is also known to have close links with the anti-talk ULFA-I.
