Guwahati trees to be trimmed to prevent electrocution cases

"It has been observed that, many trees are standing near the high tension electrical wires in many places of the city which comes in contact with electrical wires during heavy thunderstorm and sometimes disconnects the wires from the electric pole. The cost for the work will be borne by Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd (APDCL). It is also observed that these live electrical wires after getting detached from the electric pole has caused a number of accidents like electrocution leading to loss of life and property," said Angamuthu.On Thursday, a 28-year-old man, Dulal Malakar , died of electrocution in the artificial flood. Additional DC Pulak Mahanta, who is also the CEO of DDMA, has been designated as the nodal officer for the joint control room.Meanwhile, All Assam Students' Union (AASU) and Congress staged a demonstration against the district administration and APDCL for failing to prevent deaths by electrocution.

GUWAHATI: After three people died in the city after being electrocuted following heavy rain, Kamrup metro district administration has asked the forest department to trim trees located in unsafe areas across the city.In the recent spate of rains which deluged the region, trees being uprooted near electrical posts and wires were found to cause many accidents.Deputy commissioner M Angamuthu , who is also the chairman of the district disaster management authority (DDMA), has directed the Kamrup (East) divisional forest officer to prune all precariously located trees within seven days.
