Assam Rifle foils international arms smuggling deal in Mizoram

This is major arms deal cache caught by Assam Rifles in Mizoram,"the PRO said. GUWAHATI: Assam Rifles deployed on the Indo-Myanmar border foiled an arms deal in Mizoram on Sunday and seized as many as five AK 56 rifles that were meant to be traded to Meitei militant groups. "An Assam Rifles team under Capt Vaibhav Joshi led ambush along Tyao river which is a border between the two countries. Defence PRO Lt Col S Newton said the 10 Assam Rifles acted on information about the arms deal between insurgent groups of India and Myanmar at Farkwan through the unfenced international border. At early hours two insurgent from Myanmar were seen crossing Tyao river towards Indian side and when challenged by our troops, they threw the bags they were carrying mid-river and ran away.
