Nagaland CM Liezietsu hints at stepping down as governor orders floor test

"The court delivered its verdict at 3 pm and gave the governor to exercise his mind to decide on the trust vote time. The court of Justice LS Jamir had reserved the verdict till 2pm today. The four BJP legislators, including who have been sitting on the fence so far today have extended support to the Zeliang faction. I have received a notice from Raj Bhawan summoning the assembly tomorrow at 9.30 am. I am yet to react, in fact I have lost all interest.

GUWAHATI: With his back against the wall, Nagaland chief minister Shurhozelie Liezietsu , who is currently heading a minority faction of the ruling Naga People's Front, hinted at stepping down tonight before taking the floor test on Wednesday at 9.30 am following a fresh notice from governor PB Acharya The governor's directive came soon after the Kohima bench of Gauhati High Court cleared the decks for the trust vote to resolve the ongoing crisis over leadership within the ruling Naga People's Front (NPF).Liezietsu told TOI from Kohima that he was yet to take a decision, but he was no longer interested in the political power play.Among the 47 NPF legislators in the house of 60 (effective strength 59 at present), Liezietsu has 12 legislators and one Independent MLA on his side while his challenger and predecessor TR Zeliang commands the majority support of 33 NPF members besides seven Independent members. The four BJP legislators, including who have been sitting on the fence so far today have extended support to the Zeliang faction."The court delivered its verdict at 3 pm and gave the governor to exercise his mind to decide on the trust vote time. I have convened few meetings and after that I will be able to convey my decision to all," he said.When asked if stepping down or challenging the high court's order in Supreme Court were also among his options, he said, "I haven't decided anything... I am yet to react, in fact I have lost all interest."The court in an order earlier in the day had rejected Liezietsu's prayer for sufficient time to obtain the vote of confidence after the by-election to be held on July 29, in which he is the party candidate.Lietzietsu had moved the court on July 14, a day before the governor's deadline for the floor test and the court had stayed the governor's order till Monday. The court of Justice LS Jamir had reserved the verdict till 2pm today.
