GUWAHATI: Reiterating a CBI demand in the multi-crore Louis Berger bribery scam rights activist Bhaben Handique on Wednesday has alleged foul play by Assam Police in probing the case. He had earlier moved the Gauhati high court seeking a high-level probe. Handique blamed the Assam Police of resting on the case. "Sources in USA said that at least $21,420 was transferred online to a few accounts in Assam. However, names of the account holders were not disclosed." Earlier, the US court documents revealed that the firm and several consortium partners paid bribes of $9, 76,639 to unnamed 'officials' in Assam and Goa governments for two water development projects in Goa and Guwahati. The rights activist while addressing the media blamed the CID who has been investigating the case on Assam 'part' of the scam, of dilly-dallying the probe. "Despite the US department of justice agreeing to hold a video conference with CID Assam in December last year, nothing has happened so far. For some inexplicable reasons, a simple video conference has been held up for months," he added.Approval from the state home department for investigators to pay a visit to Washington DC to collect documents related the case, as per the US government's invitation, was also not allegedly moving ahead."It's a farce on the part of Assam government Chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal , who declared that his government would not tolerate corruption, is sitting on it," Handique said.
