'Minorities target of police excesses'

The voice of minority people demanding solution of the doubtful voters' issues and protesting against harassment on the minorities in the name of evicting encroachers has been drubbed with police action," Aamsu president Azizur Rahman said. "Soon after the Sarbananda Sonowal led government was installed in power in Assam, the incidents of police atrocities on the public have shown an upsurge. GUWAHATI: The All Assam Minorities Students' Union (Aamsu) has moved the Assam Human Rights Commission (AHRC) demanding justice for people belonging to the minority community who died in police action recently in Assam.Aamsu has approached AHRC seeking punishment for police officials who allegedly instigated mob violence that resulted in the killing of two youths from poor families in Nagaon district on April 30.
