Illegal deer farm busted in Assam's Karbi Anglong

WCCB officials said that the guns made in the hideout were used for poaching animals from Kaziranga after they take shelter on the Karbi Anglong side during flood. It seems the compound is used for illegal deer farming. The property belongs to a contractor Mangal Sing Rongpi and he was not present during our operation. The deer were within the compound. GUWAHATI: Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB) along with police and forest officials busted an illegal deer farm at Dengaon under Dokmoka police station in Assam Karbi Anglong A senior WCCB official here said that during a joint operation on Wednesday, four barking deer including a fawn and a carapace of a tortoise were seized from a house of a contractor at Dengaon.

GUWAHATI: Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB) along with police and forest officials busted an illegal deer farm at Dengaon under Dokmoka police station in Assam Karbi Anglong A senior WCCB official here said that during a joint operation on Wednesday, four barking deer including a fawn and a carapace of a tortoise were seized from a house of a contractor at Dengaon."The compound of the house is surrounded by walls. The deer were within the compound. We raided the compound based on intelligence input. It seems the compound is used for illegal deer farming. The property belongs to a contractor Mangal Sing Rongpi and he was not present during our operation. Rongpi later contacted us and assured of cooperation in our investigation," the official said.He said that a veterinary team from the Bokakhat-based Centre for Wildlife Rehabilitation and Conservation (CWRC) was called to tranquilize the deer. The deer were taken to CWRC where the animals are under observation.Earlier this month a WCCB-led operation busted country gun making hideout and arrested two persons from Jogota Pahar also under Dokmoka police station, about 127 KM from the Kaziranga National Park, a World Heritage Site. WCCB officials said that the guns made in the hideout were used for poaching animals from Kaziranga after they take shelter on the Karbi Anglong side during flood.
