Belagavi: The Central government hasn’t sent back the recommendation made by the previous Siddaramaiah led Congress government seeking religious minority status to Lingayat community, said Siddaram Swami of Naganuru Rudrakshimath. The seer told reporters on Friday that some fringe elements are spreading lies that the centre has rejected the recommendation. He urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to approve the recommendation, adding, “I hope the PM, who knows about, will approve the recommendations.”Stating that the Lingayat movement was apolitical, Lingayat seers will meet on Bengaluru on June 19 to discuss the future course of action. All these are trying to project the Lingayat movement was a failed exercise and trying to demoralize those who are fightiung for the cause,” he said.Siddaram Swami warned that any adverse move by the Centre would affect the prospects of the BJP in the next Lok Sabha elections. “We have checked with the office of chief secretary and get confirmation that no such development has happened,”he said.“While Akhil Bharatiya Veershaiva Mahasabha chief Shamanuru Shankarappa welcomed the centre’s move, pontiffs of the Panchapeethas celebrated with joy. “There is a plan to take a delegation to PM Modi to convince him about the facts of Lingayat religion and a decision about this would be taken in the meeting,” he said. The seer rubbished reports about Lingayats not supporting Congress party in the recent assembly elections and said the party won 79 seats because of the support of Lingayats. He also urged the JD(S)-Congress coalition to induct M B Patil and Basavaraj Horatti in the cabinet.
