CCTV cameras likely to be mandatory for new buildings

HUBBALLI: It will be mandatory to install closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras on the premises of upcoming houses and buildings in Hubballi-Dharwad, if a suggestion of the Hubballi-Dharwad Police Commissionerate is accepted by the Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation.It is mandatory to adopt solar water heaters and rainwater harvesting systems before getting completion certificate (CC). However, many residents do not adhere to the second condition. Meanwhile, the police expect that their suggestion will be accepted. In order to prevent and detect crime and convict the guilty, the commissionerate has already strengthened the beat system Meanwhile, police commissioner M N Nagaraj told TOI that the beat police have been asked to request people who can afford to install CCTV cameras on their houses and commercial establishments, to do so.DCP (crime and traffic) B S Nemagoud said the poor find it difficult to install CCTV cameras.
