Chitradurga judge restores people’s faith in judiciary

Anguished people fret over the delay in judicial procedures.However, SB Vastramath , principal district and sessions judge, Chitradurga, is trying his best to win over people to continue having faith in the judicial system by delivering verdicts quickly in several cases. His ability to dispose of cases within a record time has caught the attention of the legal fraternity, public and media. He graduated from Mrutyunjaya Commerce College, Dharwad and completed the LLB course in 1989.He started his career as a civil judge in 1995 when he was appointed a Kolar civil judge and also served in Molkalmuru, Athani as senior civil judge.

HUBBALLI: There has been public outcry over the delay in the rising number of pending cases in different courts in the state and the country. Anguished people fret over the delay in judicial procedures.However, SB Vastramath , principal district and sessions judge, Chitradurga, is trying his best to win over people to continue having faith in the judicial system by delivering verdicts quickly in several cases. He’s credited with recently delivering judgments recently in two cases within 11 days and 13 days of the crime.He’s from Siddapur, a hamlet of Savanur taluk, Haveri district and did his schooling and PUC Haveri. He graduated from Mrutyunjaya Commerce College, Dharwad and completed the LLB course in 1989.He started his career as a civil judge in 1995 when he was appointed a Kolar civil judge and also served in Molkalmuru, Athani as senior civil judge. After cracking the judge’s exam, he became a district judge and was first appointed as Bengaluru district judge in 2009. After serving in Kolar and Chikamagaluru, he is currently serving in Chitradurga. His ability to dispose of cases within a record time has caught the attention of the legal fraternity, public and media. He set a record by solving some important crimes, including murder and rape cases, within a short period.He shot into the limelight after he pronounced the death penalty for three accused for raping and murdering a woman in Kolar in 2010. His ordered a compensation of Rs 1.14 crore to the families of 14 people killed in an accident in Chitradurga in just 18 days last year. Another judgment included awarding life imprisonment to three accused of murder in Chikkamagaluru within weeks of the crime.Vastramath told TOI: “I believe in delivering justice to the affected family as early as possible so that it helps people. I delivered verdicts in record time in two cases recently. Both had similarities in that the accused killed their wives suspecting fidelity. On July 7, I awarded life imprisonment to Parameshwar Swami, 75, who killed his wife Puttamma within 11 days of the crime. In another case, I awarded life imprisonment to Sridhar for killing his wife within 13 days of the crime. In Sridhar’s case, his three and a half-year old son was the main witness and the boy identified his father as the killer in the court room.”He said there is need for cooperation between all departments including police, the victims’ families, local authorities and others to deliver quick verdicts. “I have been creating awareness by holding legal literacy workshops across the district. If justice is delivered quickly, it’ll definitely help victims’ families to have faith in the judicial system,” he added.I believe in delivering justice to the affected family as early as possible so that it helps peopleSB VASTRAMATH |
