Belagavi girl to represent India at the Inline Hockey World championships

She has also represented the Karnataka team six times at the national-level inline hockey tournament. Ayaan Sayyad, a first PU student of MVG College, has been selected for the Women’s Indian Inline hockey team and will be representing the country at the World Hockey Championship 2018, to be held at Asiago in Italy, from July 14 to 24. Ayaan, who is also the goalie in the team, has been training since her high school by her coach Umesh Sharma, who has been a four-time captain of men’s Indian inline hockey team, and under the guidance of Karnataka Roller Skating academy. Ayaan is the only woman roller skating player from North Karnataka to have secured a place in the women’s team, along with four others from the state. Speaking to us, Ayaan said that she is very happy to represent India on foreign soil.

She also attended a special camp in Noida before leaving for Italy on July 11.Ayaan was part of the Indian team for the World Roller Games held in China last year, and has won a bronze medal in ice hockey held in Leh, Ladakh, in 2015. She has also represented the Karnataka team six times at the national-level inline hockey tournament. Speaking to us, Ayaan said that she is very happy to represent India on foreign soil. “We hope and expect that this game will be added in the Olympic Games soon. I want to play for the Olympics and I want to bring back a medal to Belagavi ,” she signs off.- Sunil Patil
