Schoolkids write to CM, PM seeking funds to repair classrooms

BALLARI: Over 300 students of government-run schools at Karur village in Siruguppa taluk of Ballari district have individually written letters to the chief minister and the Prime Minister seeking funds to repair and renovate 89 classrooms which are in a dilapidated condition.Karur has one each of primary school, higher primary school and high school, and the students want 10 classrooms in those institutions be repaired, as also 79 classrooms of other schools in the talulk. Their letters give details of the schools which need government attention. According to the students, the roofs and side walls are in bad condition.The students’ enthusiasm to get the classrooms renovated has been appreciated by the villagers and the School Development Committee (SDC).High school student Swetha said it is a nightmare to sit in dilapidated classrooms. “The roof has opened up, because of which steel rods are clearly visible. Who will they hold responsible if the roof falls on students? Some of us friends discussed this and decided to write letters to the government,” she said.SDC (Karur) member Lakshmikanth Reddy told TOI several students discussed with him about writing letters to the CM and the PM complaining about classrooms. “Besides appreciating their creativity and enthusiasm, I encouraged them to write the letters. I hope their efforts pay off with the governments releasing sufficient funds,” he added.DDPE A Sridharan said that they have sent a proposal to the government to demolish and rebuild 351 classrooms in the district.
