India Post Payment Bank set for Dharwad debut

It is for the first time that a payment bank service will start in the head post office, Dharwad to cover the entire district.People can open accounts with zero balance and do their transactions online. Each account holder will be given a Quick response card, which can be used for doing transactions,” he added.“In Dharwad district, we have created five access points - Dharwad head post office , Amminbhavi, Kabbenur, Shirur and Harobelavadi, which are linked with IPPB. People of these places can do transactions at these points without even visiting the head post office,” said Deepak.“If customers aren’t able to visit the access points or the head post office, they can do transactions by showing the quick card to the postman when he visits their areas to deliver post.

They can also transact at their door step when the postman will come to their homes.T K Deepak, assistant manager, IPPB, Dharwad told TOI that IPPB is being set up in the head post office to help the common man particularly villagers to benefit from the online banking system,.“No paper work is involved while opening an account as we just take a customer’s Aadhaar number or mobile number along with a biometric impression of their thumb to open the account. Both deposit and withdrawal limit is Rs 1 lakh. Each account holder will be given a Quick response card, which can be used for doing transactions,” he added.“In Dharwad district, we have created five access points - Dharwad head post office , Amminbhavi, Kabbenur, Shirur and Harobelavadi, which are linked with IPPB. People of these places can do transactions at these points without even visiting the head post office,” said Deepak.“If customers aren’t able to visit the access points or the head post office, they can do transactions by showing the quick card to the postman when he visits their areas to deliver post. The post man will take the details in his mobile and help customers do their transactions at their door step,” he added.“Initially, we have given mobile phones to 18 postmen working in Dharwad and four gram dak sevaks, who will visit villages to enable rural people to make use of this facility. This facility will be extended to all 180 post offices in the district, he added.Though many banks are giving online or digital banking service to customers, but many village people are not benefitted by of such facilities. But, IPPB service is mainly aimed to help rural people to go opt for digital banking in very simple way and method,” he added.“We will give 4% interest for deposits up to Rs 1 lakh. We will collect a very nominal fee of Rs 15 plus GST for non-financial transactions, while Rs 25 plus GST for financial transactions from customers for this service. Later, we will also provide loans and other facilities,” he said.Rs 100 for zero-balance accountThe IPPB to be opened in Dharwad on September 1 will be one of the 650 such facilities to be inaugurated on that day. The bank at the head post office in Dharwad has adequate staff. Customers will be charged Rs 100 to open a zero-balance account. A mobile app will be launched for customers to download to make use of IPPB’s services. SMS alerts will be sent to each customer to keep them updated about the status of their accounts.
