Hubballi: The century-old Lamington High School in the city is all set to become a ‘smart school’ under the Smart City mission. According to a plan prepared by Hubballi-Dharwad Smart City Limited (HDSCL), 8th and 9th standard students of the high school will be taught in a smart way.HDSCL special officer S H Naregal told TOI that the school will be upgraded at an estimated cost of Rs 1.81 crore. “A smart school utilizes enhanced digital and information and communications technologies (ICT) for better learning and teaching experience along with effective school management to improve the quality of education being imparted and the digital literacy of the students,” he said.HDSCL sources said the components involved in the project include e-library, 3D modelling and animation software, virtual reality (VR)/augmented reality (AR) mode, drawing mode and school management software. 3D modeling is the process of developing a mathematical representation of any surface of an object in three dimensions with the help of a special software. While VR is an interactive computer-generated experience taking place within a simulated environment that incorporates mainly auditory and visual, but also other types of sensory feedback, AR provides a composite view of an image.Sources said the project is expected to be implemented soon after inviting a tender. Lamington High School is one of the oldest high schools in North Karnataka. It is one of the prestigious government high schools too.
