BELAGAVI: A mother in the village of Ambewadi in Belagavi taluk wanted to get her daughter married to a moneylender, who had lent her Rs 3 lakhs.However, the daughter who was not interested in marrying the moneylender, reached out to the Women and Child welfare Department's rehabilitation centre and sought help in getting married to her lover.On April 16, 2018, the girl's mother had lodged a complaint against her daughter’s lover and claimed that he had abducted her daughter. As she was a minor then, the boy was arrested by the Kakati police for abduction and put in the jail. The girl was under the care of the Women and Child Development Department as she was a minor.Soon after the girl turned 18 on April 27, mother brought her back home to get her married to the moneylender.Now, going against her mother's wish to marry a local moneylender, a teenage girl has sought help from the Women and Child Welfare Department and Kakati police. She is also willing to move to the court for release of her lover, who continues to remain in jail.
