BELAGAVI: Belagavi lawyers are mulling launching an agitation condemning the government for dragging its feet in establishing Karnataka Administrative Tribunal (KAT) bench here.Three years have passed since Siddaramaiah’s government passed a cabinet decision sanctioning KAT to Belagavi, but there has been no progress after that. A year ago, a building was taken on rent to begin KAT sittings but no move has been made to appoint members to the bench.“KAT is the best example of how the government has ignored North-Karnataka region,” said senior advocate MB Zirali, who also represents Karnataka in the Mahadayi water dispute case in the Spreme Court.“We are planning to launch an agitation again to put pressure on the government to establishment a KAT bench, at the earliest,” Zirali said.Senior advocate A G Mulawadamath, who had taken the lead in the fight for a KAT bench in Belagavi, rued the delay. “The government must understand the people’s feelings of this region. The Belagavi Bar Association (BBA) should lead from the front in this issue. We are ready to support the cause,” Mulawadamath said.BBA president S S Kivadasannavar too agreed that the delay has been inordinate. “Members to the bench need to be appointed and the state government has to recommend names to the central government which has the final say on approving names. But no process has been initiated in this regard so far. I am going to Bengaluru next week to check on the status of the correspondence,” said Kivadasannavar .The state government had sanctioned KAT to Belagavi in June 2015. Over 200 different organizations including seers supported the agitation launched by BBA for a KAT bench.
