13 prisoners walk out of jail for their good behaviour

Dharwad/Kalaburagi: It was a happy day for 10 convicts who were serving jail terms for over a decade at Dharwad Central Prison . He said, “Every sinner has a future and realizing this, the released convicts should repent for their crimes and a lead honest and peaceful life.”Kundgol MLA C S Shivalli also spoke. Narasappa Yelmud, 64, from Humnabad taluk of Bidar district, was sentenced to life for killing his son. Member Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority R S Chinnannavar, District Health Officer Dr Rajendra Doddamani, District Civil Surgeon Dr Giridhar Kuknur, jail superintendent R Anitha and others were present.Three prisoners were also released from Kalaburagi Central Prison. Such prisoners are identified, he added.

Dharwad/Kalaburagi: It was a happy day for 10 convicts who were serving jail terms for over a decade at Dharwad Central Prison . They walked out to freedom on Friday thanks to the state government’s decision to release convicts who have been imprisoned for a long time and whose behaviour was found to be good.The decision came on the occasion of 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.Hiregouda Subbegouda of Hoysala village in Chikkamagalur district, Girish Ningappa Bhavimani of Venkatapur in Gadag district, V P Ravi of Virajpet in Kodagu district, Krishnappagouda Antappagouda, Shivappagouda Gangayyagouda of Puttur in Dakshina Kannada, Ravi Mallappa Panchan of old Hubballi, Bhimanna Dyamanna Muppayyanavar of Navalgund, Mohemmed Khan Rehmat Ghori of Mundargi in Gadag district, Rajesh Shankarayya Hiremath of Kalasapur in Gadag and Sabanna alias Siddu Balappa Hugar of Katageri in Bagalkot district were released on Friday.MP Pralhad Joshi handed them their release letters, a copy of the biography of Mahatma Gandhi and various items produced by jail inmates. He said, “Every sinner has a future and realizing this, the released convicts should repent for their crimes and a lead honest and peaceful life.”Kundgol MLA C S Shivalli also spoke. Two of them were serving life sentences while the third one was sentenced for a minor offence.While Venkatesh, 35, of Andola village in Jewargi taluk of Kalaburagi was sentenced to life for murdering his brother. Narasappa Yelmud, 64, from Humnabad taluk of Bidar district, was sentenced to life for killing his son. Khalander, 41, of Maski town in Raichur district, was jailed for robbery.Krishnakumar, chief superintendent of the prison, said that of the six applications the government considered three.He said that the inmates are constantly monitored and some of them display remorse and try to change for the better. Such prisoners are identified, he added.
