BRTS will be a success in twin cities, says Cholan

He said the BRTS project will play a vital role in attracting investors to the twin cities in the days to come.Replying to queries from the public during a phone-in programme organized by Vijaya Karnataka, a sister concern of the Times of India in Hubballi on Friday, Cholan said there generally are initial problems and hiccups while implementing a new project and BRTS was no exception.Cholan was asked if the project would be a success in the twin cities considering it had failed in other parts of the country. Some callers also suggested that it was unscientific project, devised to loot the exchequer.“To overcome these initial glitches, we have started trial runs ahead of the official launch of the project on November 1,” Cholan said. “It is wrong to say that this project will fail just because similar projects have failed in other parts of the country. However, in Hubballi-Dharwad, BRTS is being built to connect two big cities covering about 18km to 20km.Stating that BRTS would also also attract investors, he also claimed BRTS would provide better service to the public than the Namma Metro in Bengaluru.“Initially, we will follow a fixed fares for buses run between Hubballi and Dharwad by NWKRTC till we get specific BRTS fare fixed by government,” he said. Some callers appreciated BRTS, hailing it as big project and claiming it would contribute to the city’s growth.
