JD(S): Scrap riders while purchasing green gram

Dharwad: The Janata Dal (S) Raitha Morcha members led by former MLA N H Konaraddi staged a demonstration in front of the deputy commissioner’s office in Dharwad on Saturday to press the central government to facilitate purchase of minimum 10 quintals of green gram from each farmer under the MSP.The farmers also demanded removal of conditions imposed while purchasing green gram under the scheme. He said farmers in Dharwad, Belagavi, Bagalkot, Kalaburagi, Yadgiri and Bidar districts had grown large quantities of green gram and they demanded that the government purchase at least 10 quintals from each farmer.He reminded that the Cotton Corporation of India had purchased cotton directly from farmers when the price of cotton had crashed in the open market.
