It has also developed the Janahita mobile application through which citizens can register complaints with the municipal office. Hubballi: It appears that Janahita, an initiative of the Karnataka Municipal Data Society which is recognized as Municipal Reforms Cell (MRC), is disconnected from the Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC). The society is also recognized as a Municipal Reforms Cell (MRC) and aims to resolve grievances of citizens of all towns and cities. We approached the zonal commissioner on Wednesday evening, and the health inspector at Zone-12 office said they don’t get alerts from Janahita. “From a few months, we get hardly any complaints, or get delayed alerts from the Janahita control room,” he revealed.Mayur Patil, a private firm employee, pointed out that coordination between Janahita and HDMC had collapsed in 2016 itself.

Hubballi: It appears that Janahita, an initiative of the Karnataka Municipal Data Society which is recognized as Municipal Reforms Cell (MRC), is disconnected from the Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC). Due to a lack of coordination between Janahita and HDMC , citizens are struggling to get their grievances addressed.Sharing his experience with TOI, Mahadev Hadimani, a resident in Vanasiri Nagar, Sattur, said he had registered a grievance on October 7 with Janahita on its call centre number 080-23108108, which is based in Bengaluru. “I got a text message that it would be resolved on October 8, Monday. As the grievance was related to choking of the underground drainage (UGD) main line, it was very difficult to live comfortably here. Considering it was a government holiday on Monday, we thought they would attend to it on Tuesday, but nothing happened. We approached the zonal commissioner on Wednesday evening, and the health inspector at Zone-12 office said they don’t get alerts from Janahita. Seeing our condition, he sent staffers on Thursday morning. The irony is that we got a call from HDMC personnel asking about our grievance dated Oct 7,” he said.Sunil Nalavade, an online activist , observed that as the local control room has only three lines, many citizens of the twin-cities call Janahita. “Personnel at Janahita are assigned to handle grievances of all cities and towns of state, so many times our grievances don’t reach the officials concerned in Hubballi-Dharwad,” Nalavade said.Social activist Vivekananda Salins termed the coordination between Janahita and HDMC as “very weak”.“I am approaching the zonal office and officials personally to get civic grievances resolved,” he added.Admitting the same, M B Myageri, senior health inspector, Zone-12, HDMC, said grievances filed at Janahita would reach the officials earlier. “From a few months, we get hardly any complaints, or get delayed alerts from the Janahita control room,” he revealed.Mayur Patil, a private firm employee, pointed out that coordination between Janahita and HDMC had collapsed in 2016 itself. “I had filed a complaint on December 23, 2016, about garbage lifting. But it was disposed of on Dec 31, 2016. After this experience, I stopped complaining on Janahita,” he said.S C Bevur, public relations officer, HDMC, was unavailable for the comment. What is JanahitaJanahita, an initiative of the Karnataka Municipal Data Society, was created by the directorate of municipal administration of the urban development department in 2007-08 with a defined set of objectives towards strengthening urban local bodies through e-governance. The society is also recognized as a Municipal Reforms Cell (MRC) and aims to resolve grievances of citizens of all towns and cities. It has also developed the Janahita mobile application through which citizens can register complaints with the municipal office.
