Dharwad: University of Agricultural Sciences campus here will be the venue of the 84th Akhila Bharat Kannada Sahitya Sammelana from January 4-6, 2019.The venue was finalized at a meeting of litterateurs, Kannada activists, police officers and senior district officials at Circuit House here on Wednesday. Deputy commissioner Deepa Cholan chaired the meeting.As veteran journalist Patil Puttappa and some others insisted on holding the event at the Karnatak College Dharwad (KCD) grounds considering its historical importance, it was decided to start the procession at KCD grounds. Other events, including the inauguration, will be held on the university campus. It was also decided to set up a Sahitya Sammelana memorial on KCD grounds.Senior Kannada writers, academicians, office-bearers of Kannada organizations gave their consent after the DC and police officers apprised them about the merits and demerits of holding the literary meet at UAS-D, KCD grounds and Karnatak University Dharwad campus.Later, Deepa told reporters that the district administration was eager to hold the Sammelana at Karnatak College, which is celebrating its centenary. However, distribution of food and traffic management was the main challenge.DCP B S Nemagouda said that considering the possibilities of a huge inflow of people to the event, it was noticed that preparation and distribution of food and streamlining traffic flow would be a big challenge. Therefore, officials preferred UAS-D campus over the other two venues. “The UAS-D campus is an ideal location for this event, considering the availability of space, halls, parking lots and other facilities at a single property,” said Deepa.Free bus serviceDeepa said that to overcome the distance issue, the district administration will arrange free buses to the venue from selected points. Apart from running 50 NWKRTC buses, the Chigari buses of BRTS will also be extended to UAS-D. Elaborate lighting and security arrangements will be made at UAS-D campus and repair works of the roads leading to the venue would be completed shortly, she said.
