Dharwad district administration gets into election mode

Dharwad: The district administration gas entered poll mode after the Election Commission of India sounded the state election committees about the possibilities of announcing the calendar of events for the Lok Sabha elections in March first week. She said the process of constituting various committees has already begun and asked officials appointed for election duty to be acquainted with the latest rules, regulations and guidelines. Sources said he was trying to go as DIG, Davanagere Range and will be in Hubballi-Dharwad till he gets a suitable posting. The state election committee in turn has asked district level officers to make adequate preparations for the smooth conduct of the polls.The EC has sent notifications to all the states to transfer poll duty related officials who have been serving in a particular place for the last three years and those who are in their native districts before February 20 and give compliance about having implemented the order.As a result, the state government has transferred senior KAS officers of the rank of assistant commissioners and additional deputy commissioners. Additional deputy commissioner of Dharwad Ibrahim Maigur has been shifted to Belagavi and he is being replaced by Suresh Itnal.The police department is also likely to follow suit and transfer officials whose shifting is overdue.Hubballi-Dharwad police commissioner M N Nagaraj, who was transferred but not given a posting, is yet to be relieved. Sources said he was trying to go as DIG, Davanagere Range and will be in Hubballi-Dharwad till he gets a suitable posting. Meanwhile, KGF SP Lokeshkumar, who has been promoted as DIG and posted as police commissioner, Hubballi-Dharwad is waiting for Nagaraj to vacate the seat.The post of deputy commissioner of police (crime and traffic) has also fallen vacant following the transfer of B S Nemagouda as additional SP, Vijayapura.Dharwad SP G Sangeeta who has completed two years in the district is likely to be shifted, sources said.Meanwhile, deputy commissioner Deepa Cholan who is the returning officer held a meeting of officials at Kala Bhavan and briefed them about the preparations to be made for the polls. She said the process of constituting various committees has already begun and asked officials appointed for election duty to be acquainted with the latest rules, regulations and guidelines. She added that officials deployed on election duty should not go on leave without obtaining permission from the returning officer.HelplineDeepa said the Election Commission of India has launched a 24x7 helpline - 1950, and voters can call this number to get their queries related to EPIC card, voters' list, violation of model code of conduct and election malpractice and others resolved.
