Vijayapura: Union minister of state for drinking water and sanitation Ramesh Jigajinagi on Thursday laid the foundation stone for construction of a new railway station building in Vijayapura . The current building is over 100 years old.Jha said that Rs 20 crore will be spent to shift the railway goods shed, situated behind the railway station, to Aliyabad. He also launched the work on a road overbridge in lieu of level crossing no. 84 between Vijayapura and Minchanal railway stations.Speaking at a public function on the outskirts of Vijayapura, Jigajinagi said that the road overbridge will fulfill a long-standing demand and check traffic problems.The new station building with modern façade is being constructed at a cost of Rs 15.5 crore, said Sushil Kumar Jha, additional divisional railway manager, South Western Railway . The railways and state government will share the cost for construction of the new road overbridge.
