BELAGAVI: The decision of the Belagavi City Corporation BCC ) to centralize the process of approving building plans is causing lot of inconvenience to the public.In the recent budget meeting of the council, councillor Dinesh Nashipudi protested at the door of the meeting hall demanding the decentralization of providing approval to building plans.Earlier, building permissions for up to 2,400 sqft area used to be given through BCC’s four divisional offices, which was convenient for the people. Residents of southern Belagavi used to get permissions from the divisional offices in the two BCC complexes in Goaves Circle while people in the norther parts would go to the offices in Konwal Galli and Vishweshwaraiah Nagar.However, BCC decided to centralize the process forcing all residents to go its central office in Ashok Nagar to get building permission. Now residents are forced to travel a longer distance to apply for building permissions. With just office handling all the applications, it is taking much longer for BCC to approve building plans.Some residents say that earlier they would get approval for building plans witin seven to 10 days and not it is taking at least 15 to 20 days.Some residents say the online system to apply for building permission is not working properly.
