Road works hamper traffic movement across Hubballi

As all works were started at the time, traffic has been hampered,” he said.“We started work on the stretch between Old Income Tax Office in Vidyanagar to Pinto Raod under CRF grants of Rs 40 crore.

Deshpande Nagar residents say the stretch from Desai Cross to Sharada Bhavan Hotel Road is causing most problems.Ashok, who runs a bakery in the area said, “It’s been over six months since work began and they are yet to be completed. Connecting bus services to Vijaynagar, Ashoknagar, Rajnagar, Bhavani Nagar and many other areas have been hampered. Senior citizens are finding it difficult due to the lack of proper mode of transport.”Hubballi Hotel Owners’ Association president Krishnamurthy Uchila said development works are the need of the hour. “But we don’t understand how authorities like police , transport and national highway departments are coordinating and whether theyare in touch among themselves. Before initiating such works, the authorities must assess if the road has an alternative road or not, how many vehicles can move on the alternate road and other such matters. It’s unfortunate that just to reach KC Circle it’s taking 25-30 minutes. If the roads connecting Deshpande Nagar are not rectified sooner, things will only worsen,” he added.H M Krishnareddy, AEE, National Highway, Hubballi sub division, admitted that the ongoing road works have hampered traffic movement. “We had informed police about the work and they had suggested some alternate roads. As all works were started at the time, traffic has been hampered,” he said.“We started work on the stretch between Old Income Tax Office in Vidyanagar to Pinto Raod under CRF grants of Rs 40 crore. The stretch between Desai Cross and Sharada Hotel Cross is causing more traffic problems. One more month is required to finish the work and we seek cooperation from public,” he added.Police sources said the delay in the work was the main reason for the traffic problem.
