If things move at the same pace as expected, then the new court complex in Hubballi will be ready for inauguration by July this year.

Speaking to presspersons after a visit to the site of the new court complex at Vidyanagar here on Tuesday, Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Jagadish Shettar said that the July deadline had been set for completion of the second phase of work.

He said that Rs. 75 crore was sanctioned for the first phase of the court complex, which was subsequently enhanced to Rs. 98 crore. “An additional Rs. 24 crore was sanctioned for the second phase of the work. Now the civil works have been completed now and the work on installing a centralised air conditioning system is on. The deadline for completion of works is July,” he said.

Project cost

Mr. Shettar justified the increase in the project cost saying that modifications were made and new works included for providing the best amenities to the litigant public, the judges and the advocates. “Once completed, it will be the best court complex in the State,” he said. He said that additional funds of Rs. 9 crore had been sought for construction of a building to house the Bar Association office and a library and soon this work would start.

Behind schedule

Recalling that they were running behind schedule, Mr. Shettar said that he would take up the issue of fixing the date of inauguration well in advance so that the works got expedited. He said that it had been proposed to widen the road leading to the court complex.

“It has become necessary as the central bus station and new bus depots of Hubballi-Dharwad Bus Rapid Transit System (HD-BRTS) are coming up on the same stretch. It has been proposed to widen the stretch from Kamaripet Police Station (via Vikas Nagar) to Unkal Cross to a 18-metre road. The survey has been done and shortly, tenders will be floated for laying a concrete road,” he said.

Mayor D.K. Chavan, president of Hubballi Bar Association D.M. Nargund, General Secretary Ashok Anvekar, HDMC councillor Mahesh Burli, former NWKRTC Chairman Mallikarjun Savakar accompanied Mr. Shettar during the visit.
