IT network capacity being upgraded at mandal level

Senior officials dealing with IT infrastructure said currently the department had network with a capacity of 2 mbps and servers are being upgraded to enhance it to 8 mbps. In addition to extending the registration process to mandal level, the government is firm that the communication between the government officials at different levels should be through the official mail. The State government has embarked upon enhancing the capacity of the existing IT network, network covering the activities of the Revenue Department in particular, consequent on its decision to entrust the tahsildars with responsibility of sub-registrars to register properties.

Registrations will be allowed at 443 out of the 584 mandal revenue offices from March 11 and the existing 141 offices of the sub-registrars would come under the jurisdiction of the respective tahsildars. The IT department had accordingly decided to revisit the CARD (computer aided registration of documents) application extending it to the MROs. Senior officials dealing with IT infrastructure said currently the department had network with a capacity of 2 mbps and servers are being upgraded to enhance it to 8 mbps. Adding systems The focus was therefore on adding more systems connected to the State Data Centre, to the existing network to carry on the anticipated load once registrations start from the MRO offices. “The additional nodes (systems) can be utilised or removed based on the capacity utilisation in the coming days,” the official said. In addition to extending the registration process to mandal level, the government is firm that the communication between the government officials at different levels should be through the official mail. Over 50,000 of the close to two lakh employees were already using the official mail for communication and efforts are on to bring all the officials at different levels into the network. “Secretary level officers, heads of departments and the police department are relying on communication through official mail. We have intensified efforts to bring in those left out into the network,” the official told The Hindu adding the measure was aimed at putting in place necessary security and safeguards for the government data. “The details of employees using private mails will find a mention in their annual confidential reports,” the official said.
