Four districts struggle with ‘surrogate’ heads

  • | Thursday | 22nd February, 2018

The erstwhile Warangal district was bifurcated into five districts — Warangal Urban, Warangal Rural, Bhupalpally, Jangaon and Mahabubabad. Warangal Rural has come under Warangal Urban collector K. Amrapali, who is on leave for her wedding. However, none barring the first one has a full-time Collector since a major reshuffle of IAS officers was effected in the first week of January. Even in Warangal Urban district, the Collector is now on leave. CPI (M) and Congress leaders accused the State government of being indifferent towards administration in the new districts by delaying appointment of full-time Collectors.

more-in The very purpose of carving out new districts in Telangana seems to have been defeated with sudden shifting of Collectors and an inordinate delay in posting full-time replacements. The erstwhile Warangal district was bifurcated into five districts — Warangal Urban, Warangal Rural, Bhupalpally, Jangaon and Mahabubabad. However, none barring the first one has a full-time Collector since a major reshuffle of IAS officers was effected in the first week of January. Even in Warangal Urban district, the Collector is now on leave. Jangaon Collector A. Devasena was transferred to Peddapalli reportedly over frequent altercations with local MLA M. Yadagiri Reddy. Yadadri district Collector Anitha Ramachandran was given additional charge of Jangaon. Khammam Collector Lokesh Kumar was made in-charge of Mahabubabad while Bhupalpally charge was given to Mancherial Collector R.V. Karnan. Warangal Rural has come under Warangal Urban collector K. Amrapali, who is on leave for her wedding. CPI (M) and Congress leaders accused the State government of being indifferent towards administration in the new districts by delaying appointment of full-time Collectors. District Congress Committee president Naini Rajender Reddy alleged there was no review of ongoing development works with in-charge Collectors unable to spare time for them. Mr. Reddy said Deputy Chief Minister K. Srihari has been avoiding all review meetings due to absence of Collectors. “The Deputy CM does not have control over his party MLAs. He has failed to protect honest officers,” the Congress leader argued.
