GHMC tax collectors abused and confined

According to Jeedimetla police, the complainant is GHMC tax inspector M. Srinivas Reddy, who with his team was retrieving the tax. Tax collectors of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation recovering arrears from a company on Saturday were allegedly confined by its owners, who refused to pay the amount. Officials of the civic body’s Qutbullahpur circle were retrieving ?2.85 lakh and ?2.53 lakh respectively from Ratna Extrusions Private Limited and Sri Venkata Ratna Metal Private Limited, both owned by the same people. Once he arrived at the firm, the accused Ammi Raju, K. Prasad Rao, V. Ramana Murthy and Shaik Rafi verbally abused them and confined them. The owners used unparliamentary language and threatened them,” said Jeedimetla police inspector C. Shankar Reddy.

Shocked at their confinement, the staff contacted their superiors, who informed the Jeedimetal police. “The officers had gone to collect the company’s pending tax arrears. The owners used unparliamentary language and threatened them,” said Jeedimetla police inspector C. Shankar Reddy. A case has been registered under Section 353 (deterring public servant from discharging duty), Section 342 (wrongful confinement) and Section 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.
