more-in Bus shelters with high quality amenities as envisaged by GHMC are likely to come up by the month-end at 12 different locations as prototypes for the 826 modernised shelters to be constructed or renovated across the city. The concessionaires taking up the construction as a pilot programme would be given a go-ahead for full scale implementation only after the prototypes are approved, informed Additional Commissioner Adwait Kumar. The sample bus shelters are set to come up at KPHB, Shilparamam on both sides, Tank Bund, Banjara Hills, near St. Ann’s School, Sardar Patel Road, Khairatabad, Seven Tombs, Shaikpet, Abids Grammar School, RTC Cross Roads, Jubilee Hills Checkpost and Raidurgam. Of these, three would be equipped with Grade-I facilities, one with Grade-III facilities and the remaining with Grade-II facilities. Grade-I shelters would be designed with the ultra-modern facilities including air-conditioning, fan, waste bins, separate toilets for men and women, mobile charging points, water dispensing units wherever possible on pay-and-use basis, Wi-Fi, ATM or coffee vending machines based on feasibility of the site and would be monitored by CCTV cameras. A ticket vending machine could also be installed at a later date. The Grade-II shelters would be equipped with a waste bin, separate toilets, mobile charging points, water dispensing units on pay-and-use basis wherever possible, Wi-Fi, fan and a ticketing machine to be installed at a later date. The Grade-III shelters would have waste bins, mobile charging points, toilets and water dispensing units where feasible. Construction of the shelters has been divided into four packages and handed over to three concessionaires on Design-Build-Finance-Operate-Transfer (DBFOT) basis for a concession period of 15 years. A mobile application has been created to monitor the progress in construction of the bus shelters, Mr. Adwait Kumar said. Once handed over the job, the concessionaire would have six months to complete the construction. While not investing a penny except provide land, GHMC would get an annual premium with escalation of 5% every year. In addition, the concessionaire would pay advertisement fee as per the existing schedule of advertisement rates, bringing in additional revenue for the Corporation.
