‘Complete Rurban work in 349 villages a year in advance’

Minister for Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Jupally Krishna Rao directed the officials concerned to complete work taken up in 349 villages under the National Rurban Mission for providing facilities such as parks and playgrounds available in urban areas by March 31 next although the deadline is a year later. However, a decision was taken at the meeting to take up the transfers of employees who were already engaged with Panchayat elections.

At a review meeting held here on Saturday on the implementation of NruM, MGNREGS and transfer of employees, the Minister stated that work with an estimated cost of ?150 crore was sanctioned in 349 villages in 16 clusters in three phases and they need to be completed before the deadlines so that sanction of more clusters could be requested from the Centre. He wanted the officials to complete the process of tenders for pending work in a week’s time and speed up the work already taken up. On the implementation of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, the Minister said 100 days of wage work should be provided to at least 60% of the enrolled wage work seekers. He warned of action against the field officials concerned in case the number of work days provided in any villages was below the State average. At the same time, incentives should be given to the officials who would be successful in providing at least 50 days of wage work to all wage seekers, the Minister told Principal Secretary Vikas Raj and Commissioner Neetu Prasad. He also warned of action against field assistants, technical assistants, assistant project officers, mandal parishad development officers and revenue divisional officers in the event of their poor performance in the implementation of MGNREGS. The Minister also asked the officials to take steps for the transfer of long-standing MPDOs and promotion of eligible Mandal Extension Officers as MPDOs. However, a decision was taken at the meeting to take up the transfers of employees who were already engaged with Panchayat elections.
