GHMC demolition drive picks up pace

The drive will continue till the remaining decrepit structures too are brought down, said a statement from the GHMC. Earlier, the GHMC had conducted a survey and identified 1,194 decrepit buildings, of which 413 have been demolished so far. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation on Monday brought down 47 dilapidated structures across the city as per the action plan towards monsoon preparedness. Meanwhile, the corporation is taking a few measures such as counselling the inmates of the dilapidated structures, and putting up barricades around the buildings. Highest number of structures that were demolished in Kukatpally zone stood at 15, followed by Khairatabad 12.

During the current year itself, 175 buildings have either been demolished or repaired. The drive will continue till the remaining decrepit structures too are brought down, said a statement from the GHMC. Meanwhile, the corporation is taking a few measures such as counselling the inmates of the dilapidated structures, and putting up barricades around the buildings.
