Adivasis take to the streets

The protest was led by Tudum Debba and organisations like Adivasi Mahila Sangham, Adivasi Sena and Adivasi Vidyarthi Sangham. Mr. Babu Rao demanded that the State Government give title deeds to Adivasis engaged in podu farming. Scores of Adivasis staged a protest at the office of the Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA) demanding that the Lambadas be removed from the list of reservations. They took out a rally from Y Junction to ITDA office at Eturnagaram. The Adivasis are being deprived of their rights and youngsters are unable to secure jobs and education opportunities due to competition from Lambadas.

The protest was led by Tudum Debba and organisations like Adivasi Mahila Sangham, Adivasi Sena and Adivasi Vidyarthi Sangham. They took out a rally from Y Junction to ITDA office at Eturnagaram. Earlier in the day, they garlanded the statue of Adivasi leader Komuram Bheem and submitted a memorandum to the officials. Former MLA and Tudum Debba honorary president Soyam Babu Rao addressed the gathering where he wanted the State and Central governments to respond to their demands. He opined that Lambadas are not Scheduled Tribe and their inclusion in the list of ST category is illegal. The Lambada population increased manifold over the years and they are usurping about 90% of reservation benefits under the category, depriving the genuine Adivasis, he alleged. The Adivasis are being deprived of their rights and youngsters are unable to secure jobs and education opportunities due to competition from Lambadas. The TRS government is supporting Lambadas, ignoring Adivasis, he alleged. Mr. Babu Rao demanded that the State Government give title deeds to Adivasis engaged in podu farming. Tudum Debba leaders Komuram Prabhakar, Podem Babu, M. Arun Kumar and others were present.
