more-in The Government has decided to take up a comprehensive survey to identify encroachments on the Musi River bed and the buffer zone to enumerate socio, economic and demographic details. The entire exercise is to be completed within a month as per the direction given by Chief Secretary S.K. Joshi to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) and officials of other civic departments on Monday. The Chief Secretary called upon all the departments including the Irrigation wing to help take up joint inspections, appoint a special officer to coordinate with the district collectors, prepare a master plan, estimates et al relating to the Musi River front development. A plan to see that fresh water is pumped into the river from the Godavari should be prepared. The special team under Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation’s enforcement, vigilance and disaster management director Vishwajeet which is supervising the debris clearance work at the river side should be provided with sufficient men, vehicles and necessary tools. A temporary dumping yard should be identified to dump the debris and blue sheets should be placed at all the vulnerable points to avoid further dumping of debris, he said. Earlier, Municipal Administration Secretary Arvind Kumar informed Mr. Joshi that nine international firms had submitted plans to beautify the Musi River. The project is being taken up in two stages, greening of up to three kilometres and later, constructing of sewerage treatment plants at various places to clean up the water. The Chief Secretary wanted the 61-acre tourism project proposed at the Bapu Ghat to be expedited as soon as the survey is done and encroachments are removed at the river front and embankments. Housing Secretary Chitra Ramachandran, Revenue Secretary Rajesh Tiwari and other senior officials were present at the meeting.
