‘Compensation on Gramakanta lands soon’

The government is considering payment of compensation to people living on ‘Gramakanta’ lands, treating them on par with ‘patta’ lands for taking up flyover works under the Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP) in various parts of the capital, said Mayor B. Rammohan on Thursday. The 150 ft road width has also been mooted at the proposed Balanagar flyover while it was suggested 120 ft at the Masjid Banda. Tree saplingsIn a separate meeting, GHMC Commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy informed that about four lakh tree saplings have been distributed for free among the citizens in the last two days. The meeting was called following the resistance being faced by the municipal authorities from the affected property owners towards road widening programme at Uppal, Balanagar, Khajaguda, Masjid Banda areas and other areas. He expects the government to issue necessary orders soon, in this regard.

Addressing the land owners who are going to be affected due to the land acquisition proposed to ground the works, the Mayor said compensation will be paid on the same lines of the projects like Mission Bhagiratha, Mission Kakatiya to expedite the projects. He expects the government to issue necessary orders soon, in this regard. The meeting was called following the resistance being faced by the municipal authorities from the affected property owners towards road widening programme at Uppal, Balanagar, Khajaguda, Masjid Banda areas and other areas. During the interaction, it was stated that the widening at Uppal could be restricted to 150 ft instead of 200 ft, with the final decision left to the government. The 150 ft road width has also been mooted at the proposed Balanagar flyover while it was suggested 120 ft at the Masjid Banda. Zonal Commissioners Harichandana, Srinivas Reddy, CCP Devender Reddy and others were present. Tree saplings In a separate meeting, GHMC Commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy informed that about four lakh tree saplings have been distributed for free among the citizens in the last two days. He once again urged citizens to collect them for free at any of the parks, nurseries and ward offices. He also claimed to have been receiving good response from the corporates and others regarding the funding of tree guards, and so far ?5.80 lakh has been collected. Hetero Drugs donated the highest individually at one lakh rupees, a press release said. Gandhigiri continues GHMC officials and sanitation continued their ‘Gandhigiri’ style of protests at various hotels and other commercial establishments coming under the bulk garbage generators of upto 50 metric tonnes a day. On Thursday, it was the turn of Hotel Daspalla and Hotel Parivar among others to face the protest.
