Hyd: Kaleshwaram pump house trial run begins

Officials said the full speed trial run of the two motors (fourth and fifth) is expected to be completed by this weekend. “We have begun the trial runs and the motor is running at a speed of 170 RPM (revolutions per minute). The pumphouse is expected to be commissioned soon.The officials said the pumphouse’s speed run has been taken up for the fifth motor and the speed is increasing gradually. Each motor consumes 139 MW power with full water load. We are expecting it to reach full speed of 214.5 RPM in the night,” B Srinivas Reddy, director, MEIL, said.Package 8 has seven motors and officials are planning to commission five motors in this season itself and the fourth motor’s trial run will be taken up on Saturday.

HYDERABAD: Gearing up for lifting of water under Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP), irrigation department officials and project agencies began trial runs at the world’s biggest (underground) pumping station (package 8) at Lakshmipur in Karimnagar district on Friday.The underground pumping station is one of the pump houses planned under package 8 (link 1) and being constructed by Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Limited (MEIL). The pumphouse is expected to be commissioned soon.The officials said the pumphouse’s speed run has been taken up for the fifth motor and the speed is increasing gradually. “We have begun the trial runs and the motor is running at a speed of 170 RPM (revolutions per minute). MEIL is preparing to get the motors ready before water is available in Sripada Yellampally project.Irrigation minister T Harish Rao is keen on kicking off partial commissioning of Kaleshwaram project by August-end and supply water to Karimnagar and Mancherial districts.Irrigation advisor to the government Penta Reddy, chief engineer, irrigation, Venkateshwarlu, Venkata Ramulu, SE, Seamon India representatives — Sandeep Gujarati and Umesh Thumgare — and BHEL team members — Anil Kumar Pure ( Bhopal ), Saravanan (Bengaluru), Sumit Suchdev (Delhi) — are monitoring the trial runs.
