Three Rythu Bima claims settled on scheme’s first day

The Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) has settled three claims of Rythu Bima, the group life insurance scheme introduced by the State government for pattadar farmers in the age group of 18-59 years, on the first day of its implementation on Tuesday. South Central Zonal Manager of LIC Susheel Kumar will hand over the “Master Policy Bond” pertaining to this Rythu Bandhu Group Life Insurance Scheme to Mr. Parthasarathi during the Independence Day celebrations. Mr. Parthasarathi said the launch of the scheme would be announced by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao during his Independence Day speech. He stated that the scheme was initiated with an objective to provide financial relief and security to the family members/dependants of deceased farmers (pattadars) in case of insured farmers' death. The scheme covers about 28 lakh farmers in the age group of 18-59 years.

Two insured farmers died in Rajanna-Sircilla district -- Racharla Bhoodavva of Moodapalle in Chandurthy mandal and Japa Poshaiah of Kanagarthi in Konaraopet mandal -- and one farmer in Wanaparthy district - Hundela Balakondaiah of Palem village in Kothakota mandal died on Tuesday, on the day which the insurance scheme has come into effect. Poshaiah was a small farmer with 4.3 acres holding while Bhoodavva and Balakondaiah were marginal farmers with holdings of 1.01 acres and 1.12 acres, respectively. Principal Secretary (Agriculture) C. Parthasarathi told The Hindu that the claims were submitted by the Agriculture Department to the LIC immediately after the information was received and the insurance company has settled the claims by sanctioning the insured amount of ?5 lakh each to the families of deceased farmers. The amount is likely to be credited into the bank accounts of the nominees concerned on Wednesday. Mr. Parthasarathi said the launch of the scheme would be announced by Chief Minister K.
