Godavari close to second danger mark at Bhadrachalam

Godavari reached second warning level at 6 p.m. at Bhadrachalam of Bhadradri Kothagudem district on Friday. Two boats exclusively meant for flood relief operations were kept ready on the banks of the Godavari to tackle any exigency. Meanwhile, Bhadrachalam Sub-Collector Bavesh Mishra monitored the preparatory arrangements to implement relief and rescue operations in the event of water level reaching the danger mark of 53 feet. He also reviewed the flood control measures including the deployment of the personnel of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRP) in the flood prone areas. Sources said the water level in the river is expected to rise by two to three feet in the next 12 hours.

A control room (08743-232444) has started functioning at the office of the Sub-Collector in the temple town. The bathing ghats on the banks of the river in Bhadrachalam were flooded following heavy inflows into the river from the upstream areas. Two boats exclusively meant for flood relief operations were kept ready on the banks of the Godavari to tackle any exigency. Sources said the water level in the river is expected to rise by two to three feet in the next 12 hours. The authorities have initiated flood control measures to pump out stagnated water from the low-lying areas in the town and elsewhere in the division and keep the essential commodities ready at the already identified relief camps across the Bhadrachalam Agency. Meanwhile, Bhadrachalam Sub-Collector Bavesh Mishra monitored the preparatory arrangements to implement relief and rescue operations in the event of water level reaching the danger mark of 53 feet.
