Heavy rain to continue for three more days

Very heavy rainfall exceeding 115 mm was recorded at 18 locations while over 50 locations recorded heavy rainfall exceeding 64.5 mm. On Monday, northern and north-central districts received moderate to heavy rainfall while rest of the State received light rainfall. Nizamabad district received heavy rainfall on Monday evening. Magidi in Armur mandal recorded 186.8 mm by 9 p.m. At least nine locations in the district recorded very heavy rainfall. According to the India Meteorological Department, heavy rains can be expected on Tuesday as well but a decrease in intensity is expected starting Wednesday.

That number could further reduce if the forecast for rainfall this week comes true. Low pressure “We have issued a heavy rain alert for three days of this week. An upper-air circulation due tilting south-west due to a low-pressure system over north-west Bay of Bengal adjoining Odisha coast is causing rains in the State,” said IMD meteorologist B. Raja Rao said adding that the State is likely to receive normal rainfall rest of the week. Still deficient Hyderabad district, the core of GHMC, and its neighbour Medchal-Malkajigiri are still deficient in rainfall as they recorded over 19%below normal rainfall this monsoon season. Rangareddy’s rainfall deficiency is by 15%. Sangareddy, Medak, Siddipet, Jangaon, Yadadri-Bhongir and Vikarabad are other districts with deficient rainfall. Over the last 48 hours, many parts of the city witnessed incessant rains. On Monday, rainfall ranging from 2.5 mm to 15.5 was recorded across Hyderabad until 9 p.m.
