The other two children rescued on Tuesday — a boy and girl — are aged between five and seven years. The duo had abducted Ayush from Secunderabad railway station on Monday morning when his mother left him and his sister alone for a brief while. They had been abducted in 2016 and 2017, respectively, from Medchal and Umdanagar railway stations. Security cameras from the railway station led the police on the women’s trail up to Harihara Kala Bhavan. The police learnt from the accused that they were part of a gang of six that abducted children from railway stations to put them to begging or sale.

more-in A day after his abduction, four-year-old Ayush was rescued by the city police on Tuesday and his abductors were nabbed. Two kids, who had been missing for over a year, were also rescued. Police nabbed M. Yadamma and M. Jaya in Ambedkar Nagar of Alwal early in the day after tracking them through security cameras. The duo had abducted Ayush from Secunderabad railway station on Monday morning when his mother left him and his sister alone for a brief while. “They attempted to abduct the girl but when she shrieked, they picked up only the boy,” said B. Sumathi, North Zone DCP. After the city police were alerted about the crime by the Secunderabad Government Railway Police, five teams were pressed into search and rescue operations. Security cameras from the railway station led the police on the women’s trail up to Harihara Kala Bhavan. “We lost them there after they crossed the road. But we were able to zero in on them as one team was working on tracking their route of arrival at the station. We learned they had arrived by an RTC bus from Alwal,” the official said. The bus driver and conductor identified the women. The police also had a stroke of luck as the conductor was able to recollect overhearing the women mention Ambedkar Nagar. “After searching through the night, we reached the huts where the women live on Tuesday. They told Ayush that his mother had died and they are now his caretakers,” she said. The police learnt from the accused that they were part of a gang of six that abducted children from railway stations to put them to begging or sale. Children condemned to begging are impaired with a physical injury, Ms. Sumathi added. The other two children rescued on Tuesday — a boy and girl — are aged between five and seven years. They had been abducted in 2016 and 2017, respectively, from Medchal and Umdanagar railway stations. They have no recollection of their parents and believe the accused are their caretakers.
