In the name of Musi beautification, you are establishing pathways, fencing them and planting saplings there. This is not the way you should protect the Musi from being further inundated with drains and effluents. “This is not the purpose of disaster management wings,” he said.Turning very critical as to how the Musi issue is being addressed, the CJ said: “What are you doing? If all the ways leading to the heart are filled with cholesterol like this, then one day a stage would come where stents will no longer work and bypass surgery alone would remain as the lone solution,” the bench said, while asking the registry to tag this plea along with a public interest plea pending with the court on this matter. “Even Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station, known as Imlibun bus station, was built on the Musi riverbed and hence this too needs to be relocated,” said Sundari Peesupati, counsel for the petitioner.Reminding everyone about the repercussions Kerala is going through on account of the destruction of riverbeds and environment, the CJ said that wings like disaster management should work towards averting disasters and not towards managing disasters after they actually happen.

HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad high court on Tuesday drew a strong parallel between the flood-ravaged Kerala and the lack of seriousness on the part of the authorities in Telangana to protect the Musi river and directed the TRS government to focus on protection rather than beautification of a river that acts as a life of Hyderabad and a few districts it runs through.“Leave aside the beautification of Musi river, first save it from extinction because it is already getting condensed with the widespread encroachments all around its passageway,” said a bench of Chief Justice TB Radhakrishnan and Justice V Ramasubramanian. The bench turned critical towards the official machinery that was formed to protect the river while hearing a petition filed by social activist G Ramnath Karunakar, who wanted the court to direct the authorities to remove the encroachments that are eating into the core of the river. “This is not the purpose of disaster management wings,” he said.Turning very critical as to how the Musi issue is being addressed, the CJ said: “What are you doing?
