Sports firm Fanatics opens tech centre in city

Licensed sports merchandise firm Fanatics has established its India technology innovation centre in Hyderabad. The two senior executives with Satish Umale, who heads the India operations for Fanatics, addressed the media here on Tuesday. On the investment made on the Hyderabad facility, Mr. Madrigal said Fanatics invests $140 million a year globally on technology, including mobile data, global supply chain and on demand manufacturing. Mr. Umale said the company is looking to fill various technology roles, including full stack software engineers, Data and BI engineers, data scientists and UX developers and supply chain specialists. The India Tech Centre is one of several global offices that the $2 billion firm has recently opened as it introduces the vertically-integrated, end-to-end omnichannel retail capabilities to partners worldwide.

One hundred engineers are to be recruited for the facility in a few years, according to chief technology and product officer Matt Madrigal. Hiring has begun and 15 people have already joined, added senior vice-president of engineering Ramana Thumu. By the year-end, the facility would have 35 engineers. The two senior executives with Satish Umale, who heads the India operations for Fanatics, addressed the media here on Tuesday. The company, headquartered in Florida, U.S., partners with some of the largest sporting operations and clubs in the world, including Real Madrid, Manchester United, Big Bash Cricket, NBA, NFL and the Wimbledon Championship. The India Tech Centre is one of several global offices that the $2 billion firm has recently opened as it introduces the vertically-integrated, end-to-end omnichannel retail capabilities to partners worldwide. Fanatics now has operations in the U.S., Canada, Germany, Spain, Japan, Hong Kong and the U.K. The expansion is due in large part to a $1-billion investment that Fanatics received in 2017 from SoftBank’s Vision Fund, a release said. Mr. Umale said the company is looking to fill various technology roles, including full stack software engineers, Data and BI engineers, data scientists and UX developers and supply chain specialists.
