HYDERABAD: Instances of schools enticing parents for admissions by falsely promoting themselves as ‘CBSE-affiliated’ are on the rise, forcing the education department to crack down on such errant schools in the city limits. Rishi Public School in Bairagiguda, as reported by TOI, is among many such schools in the city that are luring parents under the guise of being CBSE affiliated. An RTI query filed by a city-activist had earlier revealed that SR Digi School branches at Tarnaka and Secunderabad too were not affiliated to CBSE.Parents of New Century Public School, Kukatpally, where two students died after a beam collapsed on them in August this year, also realised the school was not CBSE-affiliated, as the management had claimed, until their wards were being shifted to other nearby schools after the tragedy.School education department claim that large scale violations occur as complaints related to affiliations can only be rectified by CBSE, which is New Delhi based. “We are only authorised to issue no objection certificates to schools. If there are schools functioning in the city limits falsely claiming to be CBSE-affiliated, only CBSE has the authority to crack the whip on them,” confirmed an official from the office of the Hyderabad district education officer.According to experts, admitting children in unaffiliated schools may cost dear as they won’t be able to register themselves as legitimate students for Class 10 and 12 board exams.Taking cognizance of the spurt in number of schools functioning without valid CBSE affiliation, the State Human Rights Commission ordered a probe into the matter earlier this month and issued a notice to the director and commissioner of the school education department seeking report on the same by December 17.Meanwhile, members of Hyderabad Sahodaya Complex (HSC) urged parents to be careful while seeking admission for their wards. “Parents should not go by face value and must verify whether a school is really affiliated to CBSE by seeking the affiliation number. The only way to verify affiliation is to check on CBSE portal’s school directory. The board offers complete list of affiliated and disaffiliated schools in each state,” said Anjali Razdan, member and former VC of HSC.
